March Meeting: Mental Health Court

namiqn_criminal justice

Learn from our prestigious panel on:
Mental Health Court and New Diversion Programs for Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties

Our Speakers are:

Judge Marcia Hirsch, Queens Mental Health Court

Judge Derrick Robinson, Suffolk Mental Health Court

Jacqueline Rosenblum, ADA (Nassau County District Attorney), Deputy Director of Alternative Prosecutions & Resources at NCDA
Pam Kelly-Pincus, the Director of Phoenix (Office of Alternative Prosecutions & Resources)
Teresa Aiello, County Court Drug Diversion Unit Chief (Nassau County)

Cognizant of the fact that many justice-involved individuals have psychosocial problems – including mental illness – that are more appropriately addressed with treatment than incarceration, in November of 2017, the Nassau County District Attorney, Madeline Singas, launched the Office of Alternative Prosecutions & Resources (Phoenix). Phoenix is responsible for coordinating comprehensive alternative-prosecution options and vetting agencies and programs to ensure that there is accountability in the quality of the treatment and services provided to justice-involved individuals. Pam Kelly-Pincus, the Director of Phoenix, will be providing an overview of the District Attorney’s Phoenix initiative.

Jacqueline Rosenblum, the deputy director of Phoenix, will be speaking about the Nassau County Mental Health Court, a diversion program specifically for mentally-ill criminal defendants. Jacqueline will also be speaking about not-responsible dispositions – a type of disposition that can result when the offender is mentally ill and the underlying crime is serious and violent.

Teresa Aiello, County Court Drug Diversion Unit Chief, will be speaking about Nassau County’s felony drug diversion programs.

All of our meetings are free but please RSVP so we can plan for how many are attending.
