Political Action Advocate Committee meeting

We want to ensure that our State Senators and Assembly Members are aware of our needs and our positions on legislation that have an impact on us and our loved ones. The success of our efforts will depend on those who volunteer. The more volunteers, the more we will have an impact.
We would like our Political Action Representatives to:
Make appointment to meet with each State Senator and State Assembly Member in your district:
  • Review the NYS NAMI Legislative Agenda with them (copies will be provided with explanations)
  • Give them your information and follow up with a letter thanking them for their time.
  • Share your story! Tell them a little about yourself, your loved one, and the journey you have taken. Personal stories are always effective and heard!!
  • Respond and relay Advocacy Alerts that are sent to you.
  • Report any issues brought up during your meetings.
We will have an informal training and distributions of materials on Thursday September 5th, 2019 at the NAMI Office starting at 7:00PM
Please email David Sills at sills.nami@gmail.com to let him know that you are with us and looking forward to joining with the other advocates. If you have any questions please email David as well, or call 516-326-0797
We are very much looking forward to and appreciate your participation. This will not take up a great deal of your time!
TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER AND OUR VOICES WILL BE HEARD!!

BeachFest 3K Kick-Off Event

Dear BeachFest Captains and Participants,

I am the new BeachFest 3K Manager for our 2020 event. I want to once again thank you for your participation last year and I look forward to working with you and helping your team to reach its goals this year!

We would like to invite all Team Captains and Participants to join us at our March 18th Kickoff Party at Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Manhasset, NY, as we ring in the BeachFest season with excitement and inspiration.

For over 40 years we have been helping your friends, neighbors and perhaps even your family member who struggles with mental health issues.

Because of the fear of stigma and a lack of education and treatment our mental health crisis is costing lives. NAMI Queens/Nassau is committed to building better lives and ensuring dignity and respect for those affected by mental illness through support, education and advocacy. We have helped hundreds of families to cope and understand the struggles that their loved ones are going through and we have given them the tools to aid in their recovery through education programs like Family to Family.

In 2019 NAMI Queens/Nassau's Unites program provided a judgement free sanctuary for some of the 115,000 people struggling with a serious mental health condition by participating in socialization activities that address the loneliness and isolation so many members of our community experience. By bringing Ending the Silence (ETS) into the classroom, NAMI Queens/Nassau helped the nearly 20% of HS students experiencing a mental health condition understand and cope with their condition. Moreover, ETS helps students recognize suicide warning signs and helps them understand what to do if they recognize these signs in themselves or a classmate.

Please let me know if we will be seeing you on March 18th as well as April 25th at BeachFest. We are working hard to make sure 2020 is the most successful campaign yet. I look forward to seeing you then!
