NAMI Peer to Peer

Peer to Peer is a mental health, wellness and recovery program open to any adult (18+) with a mental health condition. It provides participants with education, skills and support to enhance their lives. Participants learn how to strengthen relationships, balance changing health care needs and better understand their mental health and recovery.
This consists of ten two-hour units and is taught by a team of two trained “Mentors” and a volunteer support person who are personally experienced at living well with mental illness. Participants come away from the course with a binder of hand-out materials, as well as many other tangible resources: an advance directive; a “relapse prevention plan” to help identify tell-tale feelings, thoughts, behavior, or events that may warn of impending relapse and to organize for intervention; mindfulness exercises to help focus and calm thinking; and survival skills for working with providers and the general public.
You MUST register to attend a class, the group leader will call you to confirm your registration is complete, provide location details and welcome you to the class.
Classes are limited to 25 participants.
Anyone interested should contact David Sills, 516-326-0797

Political Action Advocate Committee meeting

We want to ensure that our State Senators and Assembly Members are aware of our needs and our positions on legislation that have an impact on us and our loved ones. The success of our efforts will depend on those who volunteer. The more volunteers, the more we will have an impact.
We would like our Political Action Representatives to:
Make appointment to meet with each State Senator and State Assembly Member in your district:
  • Review the NYS NAMI Legislative Agenda with them (copies will be provided with explanations)
  • Give them your information and follow up with a letter thanking them for their time.
  • Share your story! Tell them a little about yourself, your loved one, and the journey you have taken. Personal stories are always effective and heard!!
  • Respond and relay Advocacy Alerts that are sent to you.
  • Report any issues brought up during your meetings.
We will have an informal training and distributions of materials on Thursday September 5th, 2019 at the NAMI Office starting at 7:00PM
Please email David Sills at sills.nami@gmail.com to let him know that you are with us and looking forward to joining with the other advocates. If you have any questions please email David as well, or call 516-326-0797
We are very much looking forward to and appreciate your participation. This will not take up a great deal of your time!
TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER AND OUR VOICES WILL BE HEARD!!
