If you, or a loved one, are currently struggling with a mental illness and also facing incarceration, we understand this is a very tough period for you. There are several organizations that can support and assist you during this period so you don’t go through this alone. These organizations provide services pre-incarceration, during incarceration and post-incarceration. They assist in a variety of ways, from advocating for individuals to serve through a community-based alternative to incarceration (Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services), to providing free legal and advocacy services to children and adults with disabilities (During Incarceration Assistance) to empowering formerly incarcerated and their families (Alliance of Families for Justice).
These resources were put together by our Criminal Justice Committee. Please email us if you would like to join the committee. Also, if you’ve had experience with any of these organizations and would like to make a comment, or if you know of one that you think should be added to the website, please contact Joel, firstname.lastname@example.org or Katherine, email@example.com.
