A MESSAGE FROM NAMI QUEENS/NASSAU
Although we are apart, we are all together and have hope.
We are concerned, as are you, about the impact of the CoronaVirus. People have become quite ill and others have succumbed to the illness. Businesses and schools are closed. People are losing their jobs. The economy is faltering. According to recent news reports, this crisis can last for months more and, possibly reappear in the fall.
Yet, we all have hope. We admire the doctors, nurses, first responders, and others who have worked tirelessly, possibly putting themselves in grave danger.
We at NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Queens/Nassau are concerned about our friends with mental health conditions. People who suffer from depression must be having a difficult time. Those with anxiety disorders are suffering. Many of our brothers and sisters who can’t see their physicians and therapists are worried about prescriptions and support.
NAMI Queens/ Nassau has responded to the CoronaVirus Crisis by creating four new Virtual Support Groups and other programs in a modified version; our UNITES socialization Program will meet weekly on Zoom video meetings on Mondays starting April 6.
We began a Health Check phone system to call people who are away from family or alone. If you want to be placed on this list for calls, please sign up on our homepage www.namiqn.org.
NAMI New York State has started a COVID-19 Emotional Support Helpline. Call 1-844-863-9314. It is open from 8 AM to 10 PM seven days a week.
The new CARES Act allows individual taxpayers to give up to a $300 donation in 2020 that will be tax deductible. Please take advantage of this incentive and donate to NAMI Queens/Nassau today to assist us in continuing these mental health programs that are currently more important than ever.
We know these are difficult times. But we know your donation will greatly help us to support so many people, now. Please go visit www.namiqn.org/donate now, to donate.
We feel positive about a bright future for our entire NAMI Queens/Nassau community.
Thank you and stay well!
President, NAMI Queens/Nassau
